vi The manuscript was found in the village of Gajpuriya in Hatichung Mouza of Nowgong district. It is in the possession of Srijut Nityananda Sarma of that village, It is written on the barks of Socli, and conists of 24 leaves, each measuring 12 inches by 3 inches. Each page contains 7 lines. Photographs of two pages have been inserted in the present publication as frontispiece. 1 first came to know of the manuscript from Srijut Toseswar Sarma, now a teacher of the Nowgong Govern- ment High School. He made a copy for me and later on gave me the manuscript for my inspection and comparison with the copy. The manuscript has been returned to its owner Srijut Nityananda Sarma. | 3. The Author.The author of this manuscript is very probably an ancestor of the present owner. He mentions his name as simply Bagis. A family tree of Srijut Nityananda Sarma shows that one Manuram Dev went to upper Assam with Bangshi Gopal Dev to preach Vaishnavism. They establishad a Satra near Bokakhat called Kuruabahi which still flourishes as one of the four principal monasteries of Assam. Manuram's son Bibhuram Dev was a Bhaqati or Bhagavat expounder attached to this Satra, The genealogy is as follows : Manuram Bibhuram Dev Haridev Rangacharan Parasuram Vidyavagis (the author) Joytidhar Balaram Chenaram, nowliving.
