dark future: He could not be able to come out from this hell though he moved heaven and earth or went through fire and water.
Mila stood up and went straight up to the window. She was now fight shy of his sight. With a frustrated heart and with a melancholy mood she took a bird's eye view of nocturnal Shillong. The starry sky was smiling. She was completely overwhelmed at the beautiful sight. The pine trees were dancing with the notes of music-slowly wind was blowing.
"Mila ! he called her.
She was silent.
"There really was not any need for you to come here, was there? He asked. "I have imagined that you would not come. You must not come any more, well, there's nothing to explain."
Still she avoided his eyes, not saying anything.
"You'd better go to Gauhati tomorrow by the first time. You must go there," he said. "If you will be here, you may visit me always. Just it is an awkward thing. People will suspect us. They may give black stain on your character. Just you will not get the fair deal as pros and cons of coming here. From the bottom of my heart, I advise you to go somewhere beyond my reach."
"I don't care for their damn'd suspicion. Why the hell will suspect me ? Am I a thief ?" Mila said abruptly.
"No...no Mila, you must be careful for them. After all, I am pretty certain that I am no longer but a dying person. You can't hope for me. I know it well that you love me. But I must be impartial. Anyhow, you can't be a widow in your prime of life. I will not allow it. I I will be the lone traveller of my short journey. The station of my life is at hand. I have no regret—just I couldn't translate my dreams into reality."
"Please, take me as a co-passenger."
"That is a quite different thing, Mila. You are still young. A good and prosperous life is waiting for you. Why you are indulging to spoil it. It is terrible. Just see my position, it is not better than that of struggling for existence. The ruling passion of my life to be a great writer is no more. Over and above, there is no rhythm, no harmony in my life to-day; now it is full of sad downcast and crest-fallen thoughts."
It was so cool and fragrant. The cool breeze from the pine trees, of evening greeted them. A peculiar silence prevailed there. The solitary atmosphere of the place made it more horrible.
