Such pecularities in Assamese have West-Aryan analogies. In fact their west-Aryan affinities appear to be more direct than in any other Eastern Prakrtic language of India. It may be concluded either that the Assamese had contact with the West-Aryan tribes before their separation from the Sanskrit speaking people : or, more probably, that both the Assamese and such tribes descended from the same source.
